Dr. Susan Lim owes her academic success to the Colombo Plan Scholarship she received during her undergraduate years. This scholarship enabled her to pursue an undergraduate degree in medicine at Monash University, Melbourne. Outside of Singapore, Dr. Susan Lim benefited from the strong academic faculty, the diversity of the student body and the wide-open spaces. Having received her early education in Singapore, Dr. Susan Lim found the freedom exhilarating and studied diligently where she graduated with first class honours. She attributes her subsequent career success to this once in a lifetime opportunity to have studied overseas at a premier institution. As a pioneer surgeon and medical researcher, Dr. Susan Lim
has, in her own way, given back to society. She, together with her husband, Deepak Sharma, and close friend, started the Indiapore Trust.
The mission of the Indiapore Trust is to help support the education of some underprivileged children in Asia. The orphanages under the Children of Mother Earth have received support from this trust. The Raffles School Education Fund and the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund were among the first beneficiaries. Recently, the Dr. Susan Lim
Medical Scholarship at Trinity College in Australia was established to provide the same opportunities to students today that were once afforded to her. Outside of Australasia and Singapore, Dr. Susan Lim
is also on the Parents Board of UCLA and UC Berkeley where she contributes her time and financial assistance to support the mission of these excellent academic institutions.
